Aiken Choral Society

The Aiken Choral Society, our community's oldest performing arts organization,  performs a wide range of repertoire, from early music to modern and contemporary classics under the direction of Dr. Maureen Simpson.  In addition to our fine group of SATB singers, ACS has professional instrumental and vocal resources at its disposal. We are proud of our close ties to the Aiken Community, our membership in Chorus America and the generous support of the South Carolina Arts Commission.  We welcome new singers at gentle auditions in September and January annually.

The Aiken Choral Society performs two major concert series each year, in the winter around Christmastime, and in late May or early June. In 2013 we added the Madrigal Dinner:  A Renaissance Yuletide Feast, performed at the Aiken County Historical Museum in period costume with two harpsichords and other period instruments.  The event was an outstanding artistic success and will be expanded in 2014 to two nights (see information at right). Spring concerts feature important classical and contemporary music.

The Society has performed, by invitation, as part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival for more than ten years and in 1992, was selected by audition to perform with the acclaimed Prague Symphony Orchestra in Prague and Brno, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). We gave Our Lady of the Snows Cathedral in Prague, built in 1347, its first sacred music concert after more than 50 years of Communist domination.

Whether as a singer or audience member, we hope you will join us for our 2014-15 season.
